Pegasus Mail and support for SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) Pegasus Mail and Mercury both use the industry-standard OpenSSL suite to handle encryption and secure connections. In general, up-to-date versions of both programs should have the maximum possible interoperability with secure sites. Client-side certificates: Neither Pegasus Mail nor Mercury currently support the use of client-side certificates (certificates that verify that the user connecting to the server is who he or she claims to be). There are numerous real-world problems associated with the use of client-side certificates, and we have decided that we cannot responsibly implement them until we are sure that these problems can be resolved in a manner that does not compromise overall security. We are watching developments with client-side certification processes closely and will post an announcement here when we believe we are ready to proceed with this feature.
